Ledger and Trezor Respond to Database Hack Rumor

Summary
- Hacker responsible for hacking the Ethereum forum in 2016 has supposedly gained access to Trezor and Ledger’s databases.
- Ledger and Trezor have both responded claiming that the hacker’s claims are not genuine.
According to Under the Breach, a data breach monitoring service, the Ethereum forum hacker has gained access to Trezor and Ledger’s databases. Ledger and Trezor are the leading cryptocurrency hardware wallet manufacturers. The databases are currently for sale, but this all may be fake.
Under the Breach also reports that the hacker was able to gain access via a Shopify exploit. Shopify is one of the largest e-commerce platforms with over a million online store integrations. If this is indeed genuine, then Ledger and Trezor may be the tip of the iceberg.
Ledger
The hacker is claiming to have personal information, including name, full address, phone number, and emails for over 41,000 Ledger customers. However, the hacker claims they do not have user passwords.
Shortly after the news broke, Ledger responded to the database breach in a Twitter statement. While Ledger confirms that they are utilizing Shopify, they have noted that the hacker’s screenshots do not correlate with their own database. Ledger is still investigating the matter.
Trezor
The alleged hacker is claiming to have the same personal information for over 27,000 customers.
Trezor on the other hand as noted that they do not even utilize Shopify in the first place. Trezor’s statement severely affects the credibility of the hacker’s claims as Trezor does not even use Shopify.
